The Merits of Surah Ya Sin
Sayyidna Ma'qil Ibn Yasar.RA narrates that the Holy Prophet.SAWS
said: ( Surah YaSin is the heart of the Qur'an) and some
words of this Hadith tell us that a person who recites Surah YA SIn
exclusively for the sake of Allah and the 'Akhirah is forgiven, and that it
should be recited over the dead among us (reported by Ahmad and AbiDawud
and an-Nasai and Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim and others - as i n Ruhul Maani and
al-Mazhari).
Imam al-Ghazzali said that one reason for calling SurahYasin 'the
heart of the Qur'an' could be that, in this Surah, themes relating to the
Day of Judgment and the Resurrection have appeared with particular
details and eloquent presentation. Then, out of the principles of faith,
there is the belief in the Hereafter, something on which depends the
soundness of human deeds. The fear of the Hereafter makes one ready for
good deeds and this is what stops one from indulging in desires that are
impermissible and things that are unlawful. So, the way soundness of the
body depends on the soundness of the heart, similarly the soundness of
the faith ('Iman) depends on the concern for the Hereafter (Ruh). __.
And according to another Hadith the name of this Surah has
appeared in Torah as - (Mu'immah), that is, a Surah that universalizes
its blessings in worldly life and in the Hereafter for its readers, and the
name of its reader has been given as Ash-Sharf, and it was said that his
intercession on the Day of Judgment will be accepted for a number of
people that would exceed the number of people in the tribe of Rabi'ah
(reported by Sa'ld Ibn Mansur and al-Baihaqi from Hassan Ibn 'Atiyyah)
and in some narrations, its name has also been cited as: (mudafi'ah)
that is, it removes misfortunes from its readers, while some
others mention it by the name Qadiyah that is, the caretaker of
needs (Ruhul ma;ani).
And narration of Sayyidna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari.RA says: The
reciting of Surah Yasin near a dying person makes the ordeal of death
easy on him (reported by ad-Dailami and Ibn Hibban - Mazharl).
And SayyidnZ 'Abdullah Ibn Zubayr .RA. said: Whoever puts Surah
YaSin ahead of his need, his need is fulfilled (reported by al-Mahamili
in his 'Amali - Mazhari)
And Yahya Ibn Kathlr said: Whoever recites Surah Ya Sin in the
morning will remain happy until evening and whoever recites it in the
evening will be happy until morning and he said that this thing was
confided to him by a person who had experienced it (reported by Ibn al-Faris -
Mavhari).
YE Sln : According to the well-known position concerning this
word, it is one of the 'isolated letters' (al-huruf-ul-muqattaZt) the
knowledge of which rests with Allah alone. Hower, Ibn-ul- 'Arabi has
reported that Imam Malik has said that it is one of the names of Allah.
And a narration from Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas.RA also says that it is one of
the Divine Names. And according to another narration, this is a word
from the Ethiopian language that means: '0 human person' and denotes
the person of the noble Prophet.SAWS. And, it is gathered from a saying of
Sayyidna Ibn Jubayr.RA. that the word: Ya Sin is the name of the noble
Prophet.SAWS. as appears in Ruh-ul-Ma'ani that giving the Holy Prophet
a name composed of these two elegant letters - YA and Sin - has great
secrets behind it.

The Hanafi scholar of Turkey Huseyn Hilmi Isik, writes in his 'Seadat e Ebdiyye':
Quote
There are ten benefits in reciting (or reading) the Sura Yasin-i-Sharif:
1 - The hungry person will become satiated. That is, his food will come to him unexpectedly.
2 - The thirsty person will find water enough to satisfy him fully.
3 - The person without clothes will find clothes.
4 - The ill person whose time of death has not come will recover.
5 - The ill person whose hour of death has come will not feel the throes of death.
6 - As he dies, the angels of Paradise will come to him and show themselves to him.
7 - The fearful person will become secure against what he fears.
8 - A stranger lonely in a place will find someone to help him.
9 - It will become easy for a bachelor to get married.
10 - Lost or missing property will be found. However, it must be read with belief and one
must intend for these things.
Our Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) declares, "When a sura is recited (or read) in the
presence of a dying person, an angel for each letter (of the sura) will come and pray so
that his soul will leave him with ease. As he is washed, they will keep him company. As
his janaza is carried, they will go with him. They will attend at his janaza namaz. They
will be with him during his interment. They will pray for him all the time."
A hadith ash-Sharif declares, "If you say the Sura Yasin-i-Sharif in the presence of an ill
person, he will die satiated with water and enter his grave satiated with water." That is, he
will not feel the thirst caused by the throes of death. Since the Sura Yasin-i-Sharif tells
about the things that will happen after the Resurrection, explains that this world is
transitory and foretells the blessings in Paradise and the torment in Hell, when it is said in
the presence of an ill person he will have heard the things that will cause him to die with
iman.”
