Wa alaykom assalaam wa rahmatullah
I found this answer in the Hanafi categorie:
So does this mean that I have to recite the basmallah when leading the prayer with a Hanafi praying behind me? Or is it if I fulfill the conditions of my madhhab it suffices? Just checking that I understood correct.
Wassalaam
I found this answer in the Hanafi categorie:
Quote
There is scholarly consensus that it is permitted to follow any of the 4 Sunni schools of law. What you mentioned is the position of the Maliki school (may Allah be pleased with them). It is, therefore, valid to follow, and valid to pray behind them without it being disliked for one to do so. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, 1.564]
As long as the imam fulfills the conditions and integrals of the Hanafi prayer, it is valid to pray behind him. After that, the follower of each madhhab would naturally perform the wajibs and sunnas of their school. [As explained by Mulla Ali al-Qari and Ibn Abidin.] As such, it is virtually impossible for the prayer of any knowledgeable imam to be invalid. (And it is blameworthy to probe.)
Wassalam.
Faraz Rabbani

To my knowledge the basmala isn't considered a fard or wajib act according to the Hanafis so is not from the 'conditions and integrals of the Hanafi prayer' required from the Imam which were referred to in the above answer from Sunnipath.
Perhaps Salman can confirm.

I couldn't open those links on SunniPath site. I would like to know if its valid to pray behind Twelver Shi'is. The problem with them is their beliefs as well as their not washing their feet in wudu. Based on what I've read it would be invalid for Malikis to pray behind ahl al-bid'a like Shi'is and Salafis. I do pray behind Salafis because many masajid here are controlled by them.

Wa alaykom assalaam,
Barakallahu fiek, is there any act which I should consider as a Maliki if I would be leading the prayer to a person of any madhhab different than the Maliki madhhab?

Many Malikis who lead others in prayer read the basmala silently because it is required by the Shafis.

As-salaamu 'alaykum. This is the relevant part of one of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari's answers on SunniPath:
"Keeping the above in mind, it becomes clear that to perform Salat behind Shias that are considered to be out of the fold of Islam is out of the question, and if one did pray behind such a person, his Salat will not be valid, thus must be repeated.
If the beliefs of a Shia is not to an extent that constitutes Kufr, then it is strongly disliked (makruh tahriman) to perform Salat behind him. Such Shias, even though they are not regarded as non-Muslims, are still considered to be deviated and transgressing (fisq), thus one must avoid performing Salat behind them." http://qa.sunnipath....D=1898&CATE=164
As far as praying behind Salafis and Wahhabis, I know there are different opinions about this. But one of the things Sheikh Nuh always stresses, if I remember correctly (and may Allah preserve him) is that one should never leave praying in a group or stay away from the masjid, even if the Imam is the biggest Wahhabi in the world (this is, of course, a paraphrase). This advice makes sense, especially when we consider that on Hajj it is very difficult to avoid praying behind Wahhabis at least sometimes.
May Allah grant us the tawfiq to pray all our Fard Salats in jamat--ameen!
And Allah knows best.
Was-salaam.
