I would like to inquire in this thread the various routes through which classical and orthodox Islamic knowledge & scholarship came to the subcontinent.
I am talking VERY STRICTLY about the PRE Barelvi-Deobandi era.

Shah Abdul Haq muhaddith(rd) was the first to start hadith teaching and propogation in the subcontinent. Few other muhaddithen of the subcontient did have ijaza in hadith from Arab scholars before Shah Abdul Haq got it, but those scholars did not start any madarsa to teach hadith or no systematic teaching was srated .The great grand father of Shah Abdul Haq muhaddith dehalvi migarted from Bukhara region to India.
I am curious about the place of Mujaddid Alf Thaani rahimahullah in all of this. Did he learn his Islamic sciences, including hadith, outside of subcontinent? I know he was present in the era of the filthy king akbar (whom the nonMuslims of the subcontinent propagate as the best Muslim king of India, when in fact he was an apostate because he started his own din "Din-e-Ilahi").
I am interested to know how Islamic knowledge flourished in the subcontinent, in what manner and through what chains?
I guess the solid starting point would be the era of Islam starting to enter India during the era of the pious Delhi Sultanate which precluded the generally indulgent and unIslamic period/rule of the Mughals. However, my brief knowledge tells me the last emperor Aurangzeb was dedicated to Islam and respected knowledge and scholars and that Fatawa Alamgiri was compiled during his times; which is quite a comprehensive manual of Hanafi fiqh for the subcontinent and an invaluable teaching aid and resource manual for both Barelvis and Deobandis to this day.
I know pious awliyaa like Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and Data Fareeduddin Ganj Shakar and Hazrat Sultan Bahu rahimahumullah (and all the rest of the awliyaa) are the lighthouses of wilayah in the subcontinent, once again revered greatly and passionately by both Barelvis and Deobandis universally. I am curious about their mashayekh, ijaza's, and other such matters detailing the flow of superior Islamic knowledge into the subcontinent.
Anyone who knows more on this topic of the spread of classical and orthodox Islamic knowledge in the subcontinent, please contribute here.
Jazak Allah
