There is a book by Shaykh al-Buti dealing with Hegelian dialectics, which would be of great benefit to anyone confronted or dealing with that. This is of course advanced philosophy while most English reading Muslims haven't even heard of the basics thereof, but there is surely benefit for the couple of thousand amongst them [and amongst others interested] we would find in the faculties of philosophy throughout the west, some even specializing in this exact topic. I'm very interested in books that deal with such topics so if there are any other suggestions those are greatly appreciated. I'm sure there are some books, and that most philosophers have been translated into Arabic - even Dr. Phil has, really!
Getting things translated into Arabic to enable scholars to address them is a noble cause, but far beyond our ability. It is an important issue as far as some contemporary books are concerned, or perhaps native English speakers should deal with that. Either way, I do feel it is necessary the Muslim community does deal with the problem one way or the other.
Regarding audio books, this is great idea and something that I've been considering, though it remains to be quite far away at the moment. But it isn't an alternative for actual books, only a complementation. I mean, why not publish them as actual books as well? And I agree that for this medium books have to be general and accessible for a larger audience.

I've been thinking recently about how it can sometimes feel uncomfortable that there is a lack of direct female inspiration for sisters to take an interest in scholarship and learning. Perhaps it would be worthwhile speaking to the likes of Shaykh Nadwi, Abdul Hakim Murad and others about historical works authored by female Fuqaha, Muhadithaat, awliya etc. And then to start a series, specific to female authors?

Great idea. There are a few works I've read about in Aisha Bewley's Muslim Women. These are a work on inheritance and a four volumes on al-Azhar by Dahma bint Yahya b. al-Murtada, as well as Al-Fath al-Haqi, Kitab al-Gha'is and Kitab al-Ishara al-Khafiyya by `A'isha bint Yusuf al-Ba`uniyya. These works are dated from the 15th century CE. From the 19th century there is a commentary of Lama`a fi al-Fiqh by Bint Sadr al-Din al-`Amili. Some further details are being given in Aisha Bewley's book, but not regarding their availability. There must be more though, some of which might have been printed, and there must be something contemporary available as well. If anyone can share their insights on this matter it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the references. We can all agree that our approach to making the deen accessible to all has to be reflective and contextualised within the societal norms we are dealing with. While I wholeheartedly disagree with feminist views on gender dynamics which resonate from the eighties and nineties - namely that men and women can only receive guidance at the hands of women, and the same for men - nonetheless I think it is important that as well as having male shuyukh speaking and authoring books on the value of women and their contributions, we should let female scholarship speak for itself. Shaykha Aisha Bewley in our times is definitely an example. But by simply translating a wide and varied selection of female authored books, we can perhaps encourage more sisters to strive along similar lines.
Feminist literature and ideology is a big thing nowadays - Katherine Bullock's, 'rethinking Muslim women and the veil' is a marvellous example of female scholarship which academically draws out the erroneous and simplistic picture painted by the Mernissi's and Wudud's of the world.

The problem is that such books are not widely published or spread, and that manuscripts themselves are rare to begin with. This is what leads some academics to claim that there are no works that have been written by female scholars, and even that historically there is no female scholarship in Islam altogether. I wrote a paper countering such a claim a few years ago, but the rare availability remains to be a reality and personally I haven't come across such a book so far. I think it is important to translate and publish at least one significant work, and that there might be much support for such a project and a very large market willing to purchase it. And the benefit, for me, merely being able to present such a work to those mentioned above in direct response to their claim is benefit enough. The actual benefit would be much greater than that of course, as you mention.

As-salaamu 'alaykum.
I'd really, really like to see Qut al Qulub by Abu Talib al Makki in good English with the Arabic of all the du'as and dhikrs included. I feel that this would be a profoundly useful book, and I'm rather surprised it hasn't been put out yet by anyone.
