If the author some Abu Alqama quotes from is indeed the current Grand Mufti of KSA then I guess it would hold some weight.
As for Samir al-Maliki, I'm sure he mentions in one of his works exactly how he is related to Sayyid al-Maliki. I would not be surprised if he is indeed related.

The lack of proper/full information regarding the Sayyids work is also an issue.
How exactly is that an issue?

What about the rudud of the Mafahim?
One refutation of a refution of the Mafahim had already been translated and published long before the translation of the Mafahim itself was published.

most of the hadith criticisms he has posted straight from that book against al-mafahim have been answered in Mamduh's raf al minara as you know.

Because we don't know how the Sayyid responded and wished the Mafahim to be viewed. We are not even sure of the full range of his published works.
Did he feel that a new series of works taking each topic by itself was the solution (as in the Silsilah Tashih al-Mafahim)? or did he want the 'Manhaj al-Salaf' to exclusively be a follow up work?
Someone contacted me recently and informed me of the Sayyids commentary on the Bulugh al-Maram being published, something which seems to have gone unmentioned (as far as I can see) in the Sunni world which is a shame considering his rank of scholarship.

Perhaps I should have phrased my question differently: in regards to what exactly is it an issue? As far as as the translation of the work is concerned, this has been based on a recent publication from 2005 which does not contain any extensive additions, included series and so on. So what we do know is that the Mafahim continued to be published as it was, regardless of other works related to it. In other words, if the Sayyid would have found it necessary for the Mafahim to be understood alongside of any other work, it would have been published as such. Compare it for example to Shaykh al-Buti's Al-La Madhhabiyya. The book has been updated extensively several times in order to include some new developments and address them. Note that not everything which could have been included or addressed has been, so even when books are extensively updated this does not mean it always satisfies one's subjective outlook of what would be necessary to include. Personally, I think the reason the Mafahim has not been extensively updated is that the book was not written for the polemicists that later would become its critics. I think it serves other purposes, and continues to do so beyond the world of academic or internet debates.
