There you go from the blog

Dr. Hanif said:

Al-Sayyid Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Alawi ibn Abbas ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Maliki (1947 - 2004) ra has authored a book “Mafahim Yajib ‘an Tusahhah”.

The subject of this book is to validate from Quran & Hadith some contraversial issues that are practiced in certain Muslim communities (especially those with strong sufi affiliations) but have been very severely critized by the Salafi scholars of Saudi Arabia.

This book was translated into Urdu language and published as “Islah e Mafaheem”, by individuals having close relations with Hadhrat Sufi Mohammad Iqbal sahib. Hadhrat Sufi sahib’s initial baiyat was with Mawlana Khair Mohammad Jalindhuri ra and afterwards with Hadrat Sheikhul Hadith Mawlana Zakiriya ra. Both of them were outstanding ahle sunnah scholars of Deobandi heritage. However, after his migration to Medinah e munawwara Hadhrat Sufi sahib ra became very close to Shaykh Alawi ra.

Shaykh Alawi Maliki ra personally visited Pakistan and requested prominent contemporay scholars to write introduction to this urdu translation. Among them were Mawlana Yusuf Binori and Mawlana Idress Khandhelawi ra.

The publication of Urdu translation in Pakistan raised an uproar in the Deobandi community. As a matter of fact the content of this book were totally against the Deobandi minhaj. Most of the Deobandi scholars did not agree with the author’s claim. Being crystal clear, for them it was not an issue to go into further discussions. However, for the common, Urdu reading, lay public, who could have been easily misled by this book articles were written to clearify the issue.

I just want to mention and list these articles here. They are:

1. Review of “Ishae Mafaheem”. By Mufti Addus Sattar ra, chief-mufti Khairul madaris, Multan, & president of the Islamic research Council.
Various prominent Deobandi scholars endorsed it.

2. Kitab Islahe mafaheem Urdu par ik tehqiqi nazar. By Mufti Abdush-Shakoor Trimizi ra, khalifa of Sheikhul Isalm Mawlana Zafar Ahmad Usmani ra (author of Ala us sunan) and Hadhrat Mufti Mohammad Shafi ra (founder of Darul Uloom Karachi). Published in “Maqalat e Trimizi ra”, page 208-221

3. Book review in monthly Al-Balagh (Urdu), by Sayyidi wa sanadi Hadhrat Mufti Taqi Usmani sahib db. Published in Tabseray (new edition).

4. Tehqiqi jaiza, by Hadhrat Mawlana Ismail Badat sahib db of Medinah e munawwarah, khalifa of Hadhrat Sheikhul hadith Mawlana Zakiriya ashib ra. This is the most detailed one.

Knowing the details and fiqhi incorrectness of this book most of the introducers (who were alive) withdrew their recommendations. Some of the people who were involved in its publication repented and acknowledged their mistake in written and public speeches.

However, the book is still available in the market.

So be aware!

wa alaykum salam

jazakAllah. the book is against the beliefs of Deoband and it shouldn't surprise no one they won't like it being published in the West and one should expect they will write against it. the traditional Deobandis are at odds with the ones who are trying to mix in with the 'traditional' scene.

I hope you understand this is not what I meant, I have read this on Dr. Hanif Kamal's blog when it was online. So I will just take it as a 'yes' to my question: 'Is it all based on Dr. Hanif Kamal's blog?' You could have saved the trouble if you simply acknowledged that in your first post, as one is supposed to do when taking the research of others and making claims based on it. As for the article itself, then it mentions 4 articles of which I have the one by Shaykh Taqi. There are a few remaining points to be made for as far as Dr. Hanif's article is concerned, but more important is it that none of the mentioned authors have their endorsements [if they made any] published in the book, and no mention of retractions thereof is made other than the mere claim that they exist. What I request is proof of these retractions.

Nobody is surprised. As mentioned earlier, "For as far as our publishing of this book is concerned, then know the contents thereof have not only been approved of, but praised by our scholars. I hope you can understand and live with this, for if not, it is not likely to change. This is a reality one must be aware of."

`Abdu'l-Hayy al-`Amrawi and `Abdu'l-Karim Murad say:

'When the scholars of the east and west read his book, they hastened to praise it and support it. Some of them are prominent members of the World Muslim League, including Shaykh Muhammad al-Khazraji, the Minister of Awqaf in the Emirates, Shaykh Muhammad ash-Shadhili an-Nayfar, the Head of the Shari'a college in Tunisia, Shaykh Muhammad Fal al-Bunani, the Secretary General of the Mauritanian Muslim League, Shaykh Salim 'Adud, the Chief of the Upper Court in Mauritania, Shaykh Yusuf ibn Ahmad as-Siddiqi, the Qadi in the Upper Shari'a Appellate Court in Bahrain, and Shaykh 'Abdullah Kanun, a member of the constituent assembly of the World Muslim League. Two great scholars wrote its preface: Shaykh Husayn Muhammad Makhluf, the previous mufti of Egypt, and Dr. Hasim al-Husayni, the clerk of the Azhar and Secretary General fo the Academy of Islamic Research, and others.'

I uploaded the list of scholars who wrote the commendations for the Mafahim:

http://www.sunnipubs...com/nmc-com.pdf

In addition to the ones mentioned by Sidi faqir, it also includes Shaykh `Abdullah al-Ghumari, Shaykh `Abd al-Qadir al-Saqqaf, Shaykh Fatih Qaribullah and Shaykh Yusuf al-Rifa`i to name a few. As for Mufti Hasanayn Muhammad Makhluf, we included his excellent preface and quoted him on the back as well:

'This book should be required reading for the Islamic world, and should be studied and taught to children because of the explicit truth, correct views and defence of Islam’s sanctities that it contains. This book clarifies the misguidance, lies, and false claims of the enemy, and certainly, Allah shall aid His righteous servants by aiding His religion.'

If a Deobandi would not have problems with the Mawlid (for example) in an Arab country, but would have problems with it in India or Pakistan (for their well known reasons), then what makes them think that the Western Muslims fit into the rulings of the latter and not the former?

Why do they wish to apply their Maslak to the West when it is not the Sub Continent? Can someone answer this for me?

Salam alaykum.

This book oF Shaykh Sayyed Alawi Maliki al Hasani (Rh) has been translated into urdu by the Indian scholar Allama Yaseen Akhtar Misbahi Qadri ( db) with the name " Islahe fiker wa ateqad " . [ Razvi kitab ghar, page 415]. I have this book.

I am now curious to see , what will be the refutation of this book of Sayyed Al maliki (rh). Deobandis should not even think of criticising it , because those very issues like tasarruf , mawlid , isteghatha has not only been practiced by their IN HOUSE scholar but those incideces have been mentioned in the gloryfying terms by scholars like Mawlana Ashraf Ali thanvee.
