Know that whoever does not refrain from denying [the transcendent attributes of Allah], and does not refrain from ascribing to Him attributes which resemble [the attributes of created things as do the anthropomorphists (al-mujassimah)] deviates, and fails to comprehend the meaning of transcendence (tanzīh).
